The ruins of Füzér castle near Füzér village stand on a remote cliff. The castle was built at the beginning of the 1260s, during the reign of King Stephen V of Hungary. Its lords were members of the Perényi family since 1389. Following the battle of Mohács and the enthronement of János Szapolyai in 1526, Péter Perényi, Keeper of the Crown, kept the Hungarian Holy Crown in this castle for a period of one year. The castle was mined by imperial troops during the war of independence led by Ferenc Rákóczi. - Bibliography: Füzér 1862, Füzér 1868, Kristó, Szombathy 1986
