Hlohovec market town came to be named in Hungarian after Galgóc castle rising above it. The 14th-century Gothic parish church in the middle of the marketplace was rebuilt several times; its tower was built as a dedication from Szaniszló Thurzó. Until 1660 the church belonged to the Lutherans. It served as a burial place for the Erdődy family.
